Land of bicycle tourism
Let’s face it: Saint-Méen-le-grand is THE city of cycling!
Located in the heart of the bike routes and greenways network, Saint-Méen-le-Grand is at the crossroads of two main Breton greenways (V3 and V6). These cycling routes allow you to discover Brittany in complete safety, without forgetting the unmissable legendary sites of Broceliande! Bicycle loops or bike-road circuits are accessible from Saint-Méen-le-Grand, enough to delight cycling fans!
Land of champions
Saint-Méen-le-Grand has also seen the birth of great cycling champions such as Frédéric Guesdon, Francis Pipelin or Louison Bobet (3 times winner of the Tour de France and World Champion). The latter is honored there since the space Tous à vélo avec Louison Bobet pays tribute to him! Open all year round, this museum delights cycling enthusiasts within an immersive and interactive space.
History and heritage
Saint-Méen-le-Grand is also rich in heritage. Its magnificent Abbey church classified as a Historic Monument in its entirety will not leave you indifferent. Founded at the intersection of two Roman roads, this building was raised in honor of Mewen (Méen). It is part of one of the oldest abbeys of Ille-et-Vilaine and houses the pretty Chapel of Paradise in which were discovered superb frescoes of the XIV and XV centuries.
Do not miss
Two frescoes painted on the town’s water towers pay tribute to local figures of Saint-Méen-le-Grand:
- Louison Bobet, winner of the 1953, 1954, 1955 Tour de France and 1954 world champion.
- Théodore Botrel, famous Breton bard who spent a few years of his childhood with his grandmother Fanchon in Saint-Méen-le-Grand.
