A place steeped in history
In the spring of 1944, on the outskirts of a small commune in the Morbihan department, a mobilizing maquis was formed, where several thousand young Breton Resistance fighters, armed and equipped thanks to the largest Allied parachute drop in occupied France, converged to take up the fight for the liberation of our territory. It was here, on June 18, 1944, that 2,000 maquisards, supported by 150 Free French paratroopers and the local population, fought the German occupiers. This battle was followed by terrible reprisals that have left a lasting mark on our collective memory.
