The secrets of the Mother House the saga of the educator brothers

The institution of the La Mennais brothers has been present in Ploërmel for 200 years. To mark the occasion, the brothers are staging an exhibition recounting their long history with the town and its international community.

200 years of history

On November 3, 1824, 3 Brothers and 10 young people in formation left Josselin to settle in Ploërmel, in the former Ursuline property purchased by Gabriel Deshayes. Together with Jean-Marie de la Mennais, they founded the Brothers of Christian Instruction in 1819, and from then on, this property became the Brothers’ Mother House.

The exhibition

The interactive, well-documented exhibition explores life over these two centuries, meeting these consecrated men and women, helped today by so many lay men and women, with their own motivations and ideals.
Today, projects continue to animate this house linked to the 700 religious Brothers present in 27 countries on 5 continents, 200 schools and educational centers, 12,000 teachers-educators and staff, 125,000 children, young people, students and adults
welcomed into the LA MENNAIS International Educational Network.
The aim of this exhibition is to immerse visitors of all ages in the great saga of the Brothers and the secrets of the Mother House.
