Travel back to the 1930s and discover the daily life of André and Antoinette Dugué. Take a 45-minute tour of Antoinette’s grocery store and André’s old blacksmith’s shop, not forgetting the exhibition of antique tools.
Antoinette’s grocery store
Hardware, balls of wool, oil cans: Antoinette used to sell a wide range of items. This room also served as a canteen for the village children. Discover this former grocer’s store as it was in days gone by!
The old forge
Then it’s time to discover André’s old forge. Through a fifteen-minute sound and light show, immerse yourself in his daily life as a blacksmith and discover the anvil, the hearth, the workbench and his working tools.
The tool display room
The last part of the tour invites you to find out more about the tools once used by blacksmiths. In this room, which used to be a horse-shoeing shed, you’ll learn all aboutiron ore mining, farming tools and farriery…
Blacksmithing demonstration
After the forge of yesteryear, it’s time for the forge of today! Enter the “new forge” and enjoy a demonstration by a professional blacksmith. For 45 minutes, the blacksmith will talk about his trade today and create objects before your very eyes. When the sound of hammers resounds once again in Mr. Dugué’s forge.
Discover wrought-iron works
Extend your visit outside the museum to the charming village of Saint-Malon-sur-Mel. No fewer than 8 works created since the museum’s opening are installed here. With the help of a discovery booklet (available free of charge from reception or from the Saint-Méen Montauban tourist office), admire the works created by the blacksmiths: the Dragon de Brocéliande, the “Méthallithe”, the Iron Man, the Lovers’ Bench…
